Prophet Ishaq (Peace Be Upon Him): The Blessed Son of Prophet Ibrahim

Prophet Ishaq (peace be upon him), known as Isaac in the Bible, was one of the noble prophets of Allah. He was the son of Prophet Ibrahim (peace be upon him) and Sarah, born as a divine blessing in their old age. His story is one of faith, prophecy, and divine promise, and he is honored in Islam, Christianity, and Judaism.

The Birth of Prophet Ishaq

Prophet Ibrahim and his wife Sarah were childless for many years. However, Allah sent angels to give them good news of a righteous son. The Quran describes their reaction:

"And his wife approached with a cry [of alarm] and struck her face and said, 'A barren old woman?'"
(Surah Adh-Dhariyat 51:29)

Despite their old age, Allah miraculously granted them Ishaq, proving that nothing is impossible for Him. Ishaq’s birth was a sign of Allah’s mercy and power.

Prophet Ishaq: A Righteous Messenger

Prophet Ishaq followed in the footsteps of his father, spreading the message of monotheism (Tawhid). He called people to worship only Allah and live with honesty and righteousness.

Allah described him as:
"And We gave him Isaac and Jacob in addition, and all [of them] We made righteous."
(Surah Al-Anbiya 21:72)

His descendants became leaders and prophets, including Prophet Yaqub (Jacob) and Prophet Yusuf (Joseph).

The Lineage of the Prophets

Prophet Ishaq was the father of Prophet Yaqub (Jacob), who was later called Israel. His children became the Twelve Tribes of Israel, and from his lineage came many prophets, including:

  • Prophet Yusuf (Joseph)
  • Prophet Musa (Moses)
  • Prophet Harun (Aaron)
  • Prophet Dawud (David)
  • Prophet Sulaiman (Solomon)
  • Prophet Zakariya (Zechariah)
  • Prophet Yahya (John the Baptist)
  • Prophet Isa (Jesus)

Thus, Prophet Ishaq played a key role in the history of prophecy, as his descendants carried forward Allah’s message.

Prophet Ishaq’s Death and Legacy

Prophet Ishaq lived a long life and remained steadfast in his faith. He passed away at an old age and was buried in Hebron, Palestine, where his father Ibrahim and mother Sarah were also buried.

His legacy continued through Prophet Yaqub (peace be upon him) and the many prophets that followed.

Lessons from Prophet Ishaq’s Story

  1. Allah’s Mercy and Power – He can grant miracles, just as He gave Ishaq to Sarah in her old age.
  2. The Importance of Prophethood – Ishaq’s role was crucial in preserving the message of monotheism.
  3. Righteous Lineage – His descendants became leaders and prophets, showing that strong faith can influence generations.

Conclusion

Prophet Ishaq (peace be upon him) was a blessed son, a righteous prophet, and a key figure in the history of monotheism.
